Great Day

The song for this time's challenge at A Song In Your He{ART} is Great Day to Be Alive by Travis Trill. For my layout I took the lyrics

"And it's a great day to be alive
I know the sun's still shinin when I close my eyes
There's some hard times in the neigborhood
But why can't every day be just this good?"

A cousin and his wife are commercial fishers. Lake Michigan froze over in the past winter that seemed to never end. His wife took this picture on the day they could finally get back out on the water. For them it was truly a great day.

Great Day to be Alive lyrics (Travis Tritt)

I got rice cooking in the microwave
Got a three day beard I don't plan to shave
And it's a goofy thing but I just gotta say
Hey I'm doing alright
Yeah I think I'll make me some homemade soup

Feelin pretty good and that's the truth
It's neither drink nor drug induced
No I'm just doin alright
And it's a great day to be alive
I know the sun's still shinin when I close my eyes
There's some hard times in the neigborhood
But why can't every day be just this good?
It's been fifteen years since I left home
Said good luck to every seed I'd sown
Give it my best and then I left it alone
Oh...I hope their doin alright
Now I look in the mirror and what do I see?
A lone wolf there starin back at me
Long in the tooth but harmless as can be
Lord I guess he's doin alright

And it's a great day to be alive
I know the sun's still shinin when I close my eyes
There's some hard times in the neigborhood
But why can't every day be just this good?
Sometimes it's lonely
Sometimes it's only me
And the shadows that fill this room
Sometimes I'm fallin
Desperately callin
Howlin at the moon...
Ahwoo!
Ahwoo!
Well I might go get me a new tattoo
Or take my old Harley for a three day cruise
Might even grow me a Fu Man Chu...
Oh Aww!
And it's a great day to be alive
I know the sun's still shinin when I close my eyes
There's some hard times in the neigborhood
But why can't every day be just this good?
And it's a great day to be alive
I know the sun's still shinin when I close my eyes
There's some hard times in the neigborhood
But why can't every day be just this good?

Kissing baby

His cousins couldn't help teasing tribal council candidate Mark when he was caught on camera kissing a cousin's new baby. I used the April 25th sketch from Stuck On U Sketches.

Love Blooms

The challenge at Craft Hoarders Anonymous is to use the sketch with a twist - use one old item and one new item.  My oldest item is the doily - it takes a long time to use an entire package of 20. The newest item is the fence. I bought that die a couple weeks ago and LOVE it.  The papers and flowers are Recollections from Michaels. The washi tape is from the dollar store.

1 Big Bunny

My cousin wanted to make her granddaughter's Easter special, so she used a wading pool as a basket and a hula hoop as the handle and then filled it up with goodies.

I used the sketch from Stuck?! and the photo challenge from Catherine and Cathy Create.

{16}

I used the sketch from Stuck On U Sketches as inspiration for this layout of Charlie's 16th birthday. His facial expressions are a riot.

1955

I was so excited to find this photo online - my father-in-law's uncle, niece and grandmother.  I used the sketch from Colorful Creations and the challenges from Connie Can Crop (pastels and polka dots - the pink paper), Red Carpet Studios (Easter or pastels) and Scrap Our Stash (spring colors). I'm happy to say that both the lace and flower ribbon have only tiny pieces left which I will use or toss this week. Feels good to finally use all of something.

Happy

The challenge at A Song In Your He{ART} is the song "Happy" by Pharrell Williams. Since I'm still working on an album for my grandson, I scrapped this picture of him on vacation with his happy smile.  Used a pre-made banner and a piece of chevron paper. Punched the butterflies from the same patterned paper. The title is Thickers.

Our sponsor for this challenge is Beccy's Place, home to the most amazing digital designs.

Check out what my design team sisters have made and be sure to link your "Happy" project.  I've included the lyrics below.

"Happy"

It might seem crazy what I’m about to say
Sunshine she’s here, you can take a break
I’m a hot air balloon that could go to space
With the air, like I don’t care baby by the way

Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Because I’m happy
Clap along if you feel like that’s what you wanna do

Here come bad news talking this and that, yeah,
Well, give me all you got, and don’t hold back, yeah,
Well, I should probably warn you I’ll be just fine, yeah,
No offense to you, don’t waste your time
Here’s why
Hey, come on
(happy) Bring me down
Can't nothing bring me down
My level's too high
Bring me down
Can't nothing bring me down
I said (let me tell you now)

Bring me down
Can't nothing bring me down
My level's too high
Bring me down
Can't nothing bring me down
I said

Hey, come on
(happy) Bring me down… can’t nothing…
Bring me down… my level's too high…
Bring me down… can’t nothing…
Bring me down, I said (let me tell you now)

Come on

You and I

It's time for another awesome sketch reveal at Sketches in Thyme. This was such a fun sketch to work with - perfect for the 12x12 die cut I've been hoarding. I used some of my favorite embellies - butterflies, flowers (two layers of paper flowers with a rose glues in the center) and the picture wheel die cut.

This challenged is sponsored by Scrappiness Designs and the prize will be a US$ 7 coupon for any purchase at the store.  Check out what my design team sisters have made. Hope to see your entry.

Logan

I used the sketch from Creative Scrappers for inspiration for this layout of my youngest niece going to her first dance.

I also used the photo inspiration from Pixels and Paper - the greens and blues and girls dressed up; and the challenge from Pinque Peacock - flowers.

Oh

My daughter attempted to take pictures of her two boys when they went out to eat earlier this month. I titled this layout Oh and the journaling says "you wanted serious pictures." I'm entering this at Scrap It Girl for the challenge use tags or bags (most of my layouts since I saw that challenge have included a tag) and at The Crafty Scrapper for the challenge to use black (base cardstock and mats).

Doing his part

I used the sketch from Colorful Creations for this layout of my son, keeping Portland weird.

Pam and Pete

The challenge at Scrap The Girls is to scrap a girl picture but use "boy colors and embellies". I minute I saw this picture of my cousin's daughter posted on facebook I knew I had to scrap it. I was laughing so hard. Then Pam came into the store where I work, still wearing the hat, and when I told her I was going to scrap the picture for the family album she got so excited that "Pete" would be in the album.  I used kraft and cardboard, buttons, twine and some star studs.

The view

I combined the sketch from Sketch-N-Scrap with the challenge mood board from Scrap Around the World for another layout of my son's and daughter-in-law's Oregon vacation. I was inspired by the gorgeous colors of the butterflies and the butterflies themselves.

Visit to the Past

I love history. These pictures were taken in the 1940s/50s (based on the cars) of the local general store and posted on facebook. Don't know when it went out of business, but I shopped there when it was a resale shop in the 1980s. Today it's a private home. I used the sketch from Grand Diva's Creative Corner, the tic tac toe challenge from Rochelle Spears (I used the middle row - triangle, butterfly and twine) and the word challenge at Creating with Paper and More (I used FUN in the journaling). I am also entering this at Scrapping 4 Fun Challenges - anything goes.

Out like a lamb

The project life challenge at Stuck On U Sketches is to use a "Top Note" shape. I used one in the top right pocket to describe getting new shoes. Yes March went out like a lamb with temps finally reaching the 50s on the last day. Unfortunately the next day Mother Nature said "April Fools" and snowed. At least baseball is back.

Jiingtamok

I used the sketch from Stuck?! for this layout of my grandson and his friends.

They are wearing regalia at a Jiingtamok (Native American pow-wow). Regalia is handmade either by the dancer or, since these little guys are too young to totally make there own, specially for the dancer. The boys are fancy dancers, but as they grow can also be traditional dancers, grass dancers or do other types of dance, each with it's own type of regalia - buckskin, feathers, beadwork, etc. They put their hearts into their dancing and following the traditions of their ancestors.

I am also entering this in Inkido's April challenge "Our Roots."

Explore

Use the sketch from Stuck On U Sketches for another layout of the ice caves. While this is something I'd never go see in person (I hate to walk out to the car on ice, could never walk 1/2 mile to the caves) I am happy to have friends and family who shared their awesome pictures. The pictures above are of my grandsons and the layout will go in the little one's album.

What's that?

My son had his picture taken in a phone booth while on vacation. I'm not sure if any of my grandchildren even know what a phone booth is, much less used one, hence the title. The layout is based on the sketch from Boys Rule.

Cute

I used the sketch from Stick it Down for this layout of my grandson's school picture.

Grownin' big

Time for a new challenge at A Song in Your He{ART}. This time's song is Everything Grows by Raffi.

I made a layout of my grandson at the Pumpkin Patch. Not only are the pumpkins huge, but since the photos were taken a couple years ago I realize how much he has grown. Sort of a simple layout, leaf patterned paper, matted photos, leaves as embellies and a thicker title. I inked the red leaves to make them stand out from each other and added a charm.

Our sponsor for this challenge is Anne's Digital Art

Here are the lyrics. Hope you play along.

Everything grows and grows
Babies do Animals too
Everything grows
Everything grows and grows
Sisters do Brothers too
Everything grows
A blade of grass
Fingers and toes
Hair on my head
A red, red rose
Everything grows
Anyone knows
That's how it goes
Yes, everything grows and grows
Babies do
Animals too
Everything grows
Everything grows and grows
Sisters do
Brothers too
Everything grows
Food on the farm
Fish in the sea
Birds in the air
Leaves on the tree
Everything grows
Anyone knows
That's how it goes
Yes, everything grows and grows
That's how it goes
Under the sun
That's how it goes
Under the rain
Everything grows
Anyone knows
That's how it goes
Yes, everything grows and grows
Babies do
Animals too
Everything grows
Everything grows and grows
Sisters do
Brothers too
Everything grows
Mamas do
And papas too
Everything grows
