Joy

My nephew was married a couple weeks ago, so I used the week 2 sketch from Let's Get Sketchy to show the couple's joy.

Shoe Tree

 I pass this tree twice a day when picking up my grandson from school. Tried to find the story behind this particular shoe tree but couldn't find anything, except that it is possible to "check in" at the tree on four square.

Used the May sketch from The Sampler Kit club.

Stars & Stripes

I recently received some photos from my aunt and among them were two of my dad in uniform from the early 1940s. I made this layout on Memorial Day using sketch #33 from Sketch-n-scrap. The title and dog tags for the banner are from the cricut cartridge Stand and Salute.

Pure Beauty

I used the sketch from Scrap Our Stash and their challenge to use 3 pre-made flowers for the layout of my cousin's wedding. Not only did I open a package of flowers, but I used a flourish I was "saving for a special layout", some black lace, a heart charm I've had so long I don't remember when I bought it and patterned paper from a stack I bought last year. Feels so good to "shop" my stash.

Eiteljorg Museum

Flipped the sketch from Sketches in Thyme #110 for this layout from our March trip to Indianapolis. The moment I saw the totem pole I knew I'd seen it before. Turns out that a group of totem poles had been collected from Alaska for the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. Afterward one went to Indianapolis, one went to Milwaukee and the rest returned to Alaska. Having lived in Milwaukee for nearly 30 years I'd seen the totem pole in front of the Milwaukee museum hundreds if not thousands of times.

Again

Charlie has said that he wants a "pig nose" picture from every trip we go on. I used the sketch from Scrap-a-Doodle-Doo for the layout from our March trip.

If these strings could talk

I used the sketch from Stuck?! for a layout of the guitar display at the museum in Indianapolis. I was going to use the title Let's Rock until I found the pamphlet from the museum. Since the colors matched, I fussy cut the guitar and words from the front of the pamphlet and used that instead.

Don't know what happened to my thinking while making this. Instead of putting the top and bottom strip of green on the layout, I glued them under the patterned paper. Which would have been fine if I had remembered to cut an inch off the paper first. I finished the layout and went to put it into the vacation album and surprise - it doesn't fit. Fortunately there was enough room to cut down the paper and add the green strip and embellie at the top.

A smile...

This is one of those layouts that kind of takes off on it's own and just keeps going. ScrapStuffz is a new "inspired by" challenge blog and  showed three squares to be inspired by. Once I saw the pink with stars block I knew that was what I wanted to use for my  layout.

Then I saw About a Girl's challenge to use a sunburst. I have never made one before, only used pre-made patterned paper, so I drew some lines on the back of the pink paper, numbered the pieces, cut them out and used only the even numbers on white paper. 



Scrap The Girls challenged to use the saying "A smile is the best makeup a girl can wear" so that became the title/sub-title. Then Use It Tuesday's challenge "You Can't Touch This" is to use something you have been hoarding. I found the large flower from Maya Road that I won last year, the sprig of flowers/leaves that I got at a yard sale and was saving for the "right" time to use, the left over pearls and small flowers hiding in a drawer and the charm that I bought because it was cool but never opened the package.

Added a picture of my daughter smiling (I'm pretty sure her sophomore year) and now I have one of those layouts that I think I'll frame for awhile before adding to the album.

You can do it

The sketch is from Pamela's World of Scrap, the challenge, white plus one color, from About a Boy. The photos are from the pie eating contest at the National Cherry Festival so I used red as the second color.

Kids have to eat a piece of pie as fast as they can without using their hands. When finished they stand up, have to swallow and show an empty mouth.  My son won 1st when he was 4, 3rd when he was 5. He really wanted to be 2nd when he was 6 so he would have all the ribbons. I don't know how, but he won 2nd that year.

It's On

When I saw the sketch at The Paper Bakery with the arrows I knew it was perfect for the layout of my daughter and grandson playing air hockey while waiting for tour time at Diamond Caverns. I used sequin waste (or honeycomb ribbon) in shiny gold. Also tried to glimmer mist the letters in orange, but it wiped right off.

Paul Bunyan

The challenge at Frosted Designs is to use black and white and one other color. I picked a shade of light blue for my third color. The pictures are from 1965 when my brother and I visited the Paul Bunyan museum in Rhinelander, WI.

DT Call

I used the sketch from Sketch N Scrap for the right side of the double layout for Charlie's 15th. I love when I can use two different sketches and tie them together with the same papers and embellies.

Best B-day yet

I used the sketch from Let's Capture Our Memories for the left side of a double layout for Charlie's birthday.  I am also entering this at Pink Elephant where the challenge is a male birthday layout or card.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Home Run Hitter

Use the May sketch from Artful Delight. Charlie posed with a statue of Ken Griffey Jr. at the Louisville Slugger Museum.

Champs

I used the sketch from Let's Get Sketchy - week 1 for another vacation layout. Charlie posed with the Detroit Tigers' bats (American League 2012 Champs) at the Louisville Slugger Museum. Thankfully I had some sunburst pattern paper, although I do have the instructions to make my own.

NCAA

The challenge at Red Carpet Studio is "Black Swan" - to use black as the main color. I must admit when I first read the challenge I thought black and white wedding photos, black papers and yellow embellies, but when I saw the sketch from The Paper Bakery I knew wanted to use these pictures. Since the photos don't have a dominant color black and white seemed a good choice to let the pictures stand out.

My grandson (who complained about going on vacation) truly enjoyed the exhibits and activities at the NCAA Hall of Champions and has even asked if we could go again next year.

Hungry?

The journaling (under the photo) explains that after 6 hours in the car we stopped to eat at Hard Rock Cafe before we even found a hotel. I used the sketch from Colorful Creations, the challenge from Lasting Memories (one photo), the challenge from Scrapbook Circle (use a patterned paper background) and the challenge from Connie Can Crop (use Alpha Stickers for the title).

Timeless

I used the sketch from Scrap It Girl for a layout from Diamond Caverns. Sorry about the colors in the photo - the washi tape and flower are orange, not pink. Journaling is under the right picture.

Smile

This is my youngest daughter, Denise. Oh how I miss the days of cute baby smiles.  I used the sketch from Frosted Designs. I am also entering this at About A Girl, where the challenge is to introduce your girl. Denise's name and the date are written in yellow under the left picture.

Best Time

Charlie wasn't thrilled to go to museums with mom and grandma until we got to the first one, the NCAA Hall of Champions. He had a blast not only seeing exhibits, but actually getting to shoot some hoops. After we left he said he had the best time.

Goose 1 - Boy 0

All I can say is we told him not too. LOL  Journaling says "Charlie thought is was a great idea to chase the geese across the park. Geese thought it was a great idea to hiss and chase Charlie across the park."
